At 35, CAC Bets on AI as NITDA Signals Full Regulatory Backing
By Gloria Sarauniya Usman
ABUJA, NIGERIA February, 2026 - The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has pledged strong institutional support for the Corporate Affairs Commission’s (CAC) artificial intelligence–driven transformation, as the Commission marked its 35th anniversary in Abuja. The assurance was given by NITDA’s Director General, Kashifu Inuwa CCIE, during a goodwill address at the anniversary celebration held at the Abuja Continental Hotel.

Inuwa commended CAC for what he described as rare institutional consistency and resilience, noting that while many public organisations struggle to sustain early gains, the Commission has maintained a steady trajectory of growth and reform. He recalled that digital transformation was prioritised early in the tenure of the current Registrar General, laying the foundation for today’s reforms.
According to the NITDA boss, Nigeria has moved beyond basic digitisation into an era where artificial intelligence is central to meaningful public-sector transformation. He said the integration of AI into CAC’s core operations would inject intelligence into workflows, simplify company registration and business management, and significantly strengthen cybersecurity.
Inuwa assured the Commission of NITDA’s continued collaboration to embed AI responsibly across its systems, stressing that ethical deployment and strong regulatory guardrails would be enforced. He noted that advanced AI tools would help CAC staff stay ahead of fraudsters, prevent unauthorised alterations of company records, and safeguard the integrity of corporate data.
He further described CAC’s ongoing digital reforms as bold and impactful, citing the reduction of company registration timelines from several months to as little as 24 hours. Inuwa said deeper AI integration would further improve name search and reservation, automate filings, enhance corporate governance, and reduce fraud, reinforcing CAC’s role in strengthening Nigeria’s digital business environment.
