Beyond Broadcasting: NITDA, NBC Seek Joint Path on Digital Governance

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) have initiated discussions on a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening digital transformation and regulatory frameworks across Nigeria’s increasingly convergent media and technology sectors.
The Director General of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa CCIE, disclosed this while receiving the Director General of NBC, Mr. Charles Ebuebu, on a courtesy visit in Abuja. Inuwa stressed that digital transformation and regulation must progress in tandem within a rapidly evolving ecosystem, noting that transformation is a continuous process requiring adaptability, periodic reassessment, and institutional readiness for change.
He outlined NITDA’s internal reform journey, explaining that the agency deliberately transitioned from a traditional civil service structure to a more agile, innovation-driven organisation by prioritising people, processes, culture, and technology. According to him, the reforms encompassed extensive capacity building, cultural reorientation, process optimisation, and the deployment of digital tools—anchored on delivering clear business value rather than following technology trends.
Inuwa disclosed that NITDA has streamlined hundreds of internal processes, adopted artificial intelligence tools to boost productivity, and developed a digital transformation playbook capturing lessons from its experience. He proposed collaboration with NBC in areas such as staff training, digital literacy programmes, sharing of transformation frameworks, and technical support to modernise regulatory approaches in line with digital and media convergence.
In his remarks, NBC Director General, Charles Ebuebu, welcomed the engagement, describing closer cooperation between both agencies as timely and necessary. He said a structured partnership with NITDA would strengthen media regulation, support local content development, enhance technology-driven broadcasting, and safeguard Nigeria’s cultural and national interests in an increasingly digital media landscape.
