ABUJA, NIGERIA January, 2025-
The Federal Government has launched a digital literacy training programme aimed at enhancing the skills of federal civil servants in using digital tools and technologies. This initiative is a joint effort by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation.
Speaking at the launch of the three-day workshop in Abuja, NITDA Director General, Kashifu Inuwa, highlighted the importance of digital transformation as a people-centered journey. “Technology alone cannot drive meaningful change. It requires active engagement from those who create policies, design services, and deliver them to citizens,” he stated.
Inuwa outlined the ambitious “Digital Literacy for All (DL4ALL)” initiative, which aims to achieve 70% digital literacy in Nigeria by 2027. The programme includes developing digital literacy curricula for schools, training educators, and partnering with NYSC to recruit digital champions. "By 2030, 35–45% of jobs in Nigeria will require digital competencies," he added.
Representing the Head of Service of the Federation, Permanent Secretary Fatima Sugra Tabi’a Mahmood stressed the need for a technology-driven and globally competitive civil service. She described the workshop as a pivotal opportunity to shape the future of public service, empowering participants with tools to improve efficiency and drive progress.
This collaboration between NITDA and the Office of the Head of Service underscores the government's commitment to leveraging digital technology for meaningful change in the civil service.
