ABUJA, NIGERIA November, 2025 - The Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, has called for the widespread adoption of high-resolution drones to strengthen police intelligence gathering across Nigeria. Speaking at the launch of a new policy-focused publication in Abuja, the Minister urged all tiers of government and private-sector partners to support the procurement and deployment of the technology to combat rising security threats.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Ogbonnaya Nlia, Gaidam said drone-based surveillance would significantly enhance the Nigeria Police Force’s ability to detect and counter criminals, including terrorists, kidnappers, bandits, illegal miners and other violent groups. He noted that improved intelligence sharing—facilitated through platforms such as WAPIS and Interpol’s 24/7 system—has already strengthened coordination among security agencies.
Gaidam reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to reforming and modernising the Police Force through sustained policy implementation, enhanced training and professional development. He referenced recent legislative milestones, including the Nigeria Police Training Institutions (Establishment) Act and the amended Police Trust Fund Act, which aim to improve operational efficiency and public trust.
The Minister commended the book’s author, Mr. Bolaji Oladimeji Kazeem, for his contributions to policy analysis and government communication. The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, represented by AIG Victor Olaiya, also praised the publication as a timely resource for strengthening policy dissemination and institutional efficiency within Nigeria’s security ecosystem.
The book launch, held at the Ministry of Education Conference Hall, drew senior officials, police representatives and public-sector stakeholders, all emphasizing the critical role of effective communication and technology-driven reforms in improving national security.
