ABUJA, NIGERIA October, 2024 -

The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has commenced a three-day intensive in-house training to enhance the capacity of its procurement officers and other key personnel in line with global best practices.

The training, which runs from October 8th to 10th, 2024, is being held at the NASENI headquarters and targets officers across various departments including Accounts, Audit, Legal, Media, and Planning, who are involved in procurement activities.

The training is part of NASENI’s efforts to ensure adherence to the 2007 Procurement Act and other regulatory guidelines. The aim is to equip staff with the necessary skills to manage procurement processes effectively and stay aligned with technological advancements and global standards.

In his keynote address, the Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of NASENI, Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu, emphasized the importance of the training in maintaining transparency and efficiency in the agency’s procurement operations. Olusegun Omotola, Acting Director General/CEO of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), officially declared the training open.

According to Dr. Mohammed A. Mohammed, NASENI’s Director of Procurement, the training is tailored to meet the unique needs of NASENI, whose procurement processes differ from other sectors due to its focus on science and engineering. He highlighted that procurement is a continuously evolving field, and officers must be equipped with up-to-date knowledge to adapt to technological advancements.

"Things are changing globally, and we must build our capacity to keep up with these changes," Dr. Mohammed stated. "Procurement at NASENI is distinct from other sectors due to its heavy reliance on science and engineering, and this training is designed to ensure our staff can meet these specialized needs."

The training will cover a range of topics, including procurement planning, effective procurement practices, contract agreements, record-keeping procedures, and compliance with the Public Procurement Act (PPA) 2007. Around 95% of the resource persons facilitating the sessions are from the BPP, reflecting the close collaboration between NASENI and the bureau.

BPP consultant Mr. Adekoya Olatunji praised NASENI’s commitment to capacity building, noting that the initiative will help officers adhere strictly to procurement regulations and improve overall efficiency in procurement operations.

The theme of the training is "Building the Best Procurement Operations in NASENI System-Wide," underscoring the agency’s drive to stay at the forefront of procurement practices globally.
