NITDA Empowers Corps Members to Drive Nigeria’s Digital Revolution

By Gloria Sarauniya Usman

ABUJA, NIGERIA February, 2026 - The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has strengthened its partnership with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), rewarding eight outstanding corps members with ₦3.5 million and laptops for their roles as Digital Literacy Champions in communities across the country.

The presentation was made by NITDA Director-General, Malam Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, during a courtesy visit to the NYSC Headquarters in Abuja, where he was received by the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, alongside members of the management team. The visit underscored growing institutional collaboration aimed at accelerating Nigeria’s national digital literacy targets.

Inuwa said the initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s ambition to achieve 70 per cent digital literacy nationwide, explaining that corps members are being trained under NITDA’s Digital Literacy Framework to deliver foundational digital skills in markets, motor parks, religious centres and other community spaces. He disclosed that the Agency plans to recruit 80 corps members per state, including the Federal Capital Territory, to scale daily digital literacy sessions across the country.

According to him, the programme not only promotes digital inclusion but also enhances corps members’ employability and entrepreneurial potential by providing access to online learning platforms and practical digital training. Additional awards were presented to supporting partners, including the Mind the Gap Foundation and other contributors, in recognition of their roles in advancing the initiative.

In his remarks, Brigadier General Nafiu commended NITDA for leveraging the NYSC platform, which mobilises over 650,000 graduates annually, to expand digital skills nationwide. He said the collaboration would help reduce youth unemployment, boost productivity and produce digitally skilled graduates capable of driving Nigeria’s transformation in an increasingly technology-driven economy.Headline: From Khaki to Keyboard: NITDA Empowers Corps Members to Drive Nigeria’s Digital Revolution
