NITDA Moves Federal Character Commission Into Digital Era
By Gloria Sarauniya Usman
ABUJA, NIGERIA February, 2026 - The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has taken its digital reform drive to the Federal Character Commission (FCC), concluding a targeted capacity-building programme designed to replace manual processes with data-driven oversight tools in the Commission’s operations.
The intervention, delivered under NITDA’s Digital Literacy for All (DL4ALL) initiative, focused on strengthening staff competence in data analysis and data management—core functions central to the FCC’s mandate of ensuring equitable representation across federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs). The training was held at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
Representing NITDA’s Director-General, Kashifu Inuwa, the Acting Director of Digital Literacy and Capacity Building, Dr Ahmed Yusuf Tambour, said the programme was intentionally aligned with the Commission’s statutory responsibilities. He noted that improved digital proficiency would enhance the FCC’s ability to manage nationwide datasets with greater accuracy, transparency and efficiency.
Thirty-five staff members participated in the programme, with NITDA donating 35 laptops to support seamless integration of digital tools into daily workflows. Officials said the equipment would help sustain learning outcomes and institutionalise data-driven decision-making within the Commission.
The initiative forms part of broader federal efforts to modernise governance and strengthen public sector performance. By equipping oversight institutions with digital skills and tools, NITDA aims to reinforce accountability, improve service delivery and position the public service to meet evolving administrative demands in a technology-driven era.
