NITDA Urges Nigerians to Embrace Cyber Hygiene for a Safer Digital Future

ABUJA, NIGERIA October, 2025 -
The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has called on Nigerians to take personal responsibility for their online safety as the world marks the 2025 National Cybersecurity Awareness Month. The agency emphasized that as daily life becomes increasingly digital, cyber threats such as hacking, scams, and data breaches continue to rise — often thriving on just one careless click.
With the theme “Cyber Hygiene for a Safer Tomorrow,” NITDA urged citizens to adopt simple but effective cybersecurity habits to protect themselves, their families, and workplaces. These include using strong and unique passwords, enabling two-factor authentication, regularly updating devices and software, backing up important data, and avoiding suspicious links or attachments.
The agency stressed that cybersecurity is a shared responsibility and that collective vigilance strengthens national resilience against digital threats. It noted that when individuals protect themselves, they also help safeguard their communities and the broader digital ecosystem.
The call was made in a press release signed by Mrs. Hadiza Umar, fnipr, f.apra, mcipr, Director, Corporate Communications and Media Relations, NITDA, urging Nigerians to remain alert, think before they click, and stay safe online as part of the agency’s ongoing effort to build a secure and digitally resilient nation.
