Oko Community Set to Honour Late Traditional Prime Minister, Onowu Ichie Martin Ezeosim
The Oko community in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State has concluded arrangements for the burial and final rites of its late traditional Prime Minister, Onowu Oko, Ichie Martin Ezeosim, scheduled for Thursday, October 9, 2025. The announcement was jointly made by His Royal Highness, Igwe Prof. Laz Ekwueme, Eze Ijikala II, his cabinet, the Oko People’s Union (OPU), and the family of the deceased.
The late Onowu, aged 78, was widely celebrated for his humility, Christian virtues, and exceptional contributions to the development and unity of Oko community. His funeral will begin with a Christian burial service at his country home in Eziabo Village, followed by a public ceremony at the Alex Ekwueme Civic Centre, Oko. A special burial committee chaired by Chief Larry Iloh has been constituted to coordinate the events and ensure a befitting farewell attended by government officials, traditional leaders, and indigenes.
In condolence messages, Igwe Prof. Laz Ekwueme and OPU President, Nze Sunday Nwafor, described the late Onowu as a reliable and selfless leader whose legacy will continue to inspire the community. Chief Iloh assured that the committee will ensure a dignified ceremony to honour the late traditional prime minister for his remarkable service to Oko and humanity.
