ABUJA, NIGERIA February, 2026 - The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has intensified efforts to advance regional digital integration by engaging the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) in high-level regulatory discussions aimed at strengthening cross-border telecommunications cooperation in West Africa..
The Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, Dr. Aminu Maida, conveyed the Commission’s position during the visit through the Director of Corporate Planning, Strategy and Risk Management, Dr. Kelechi Nwankwo. He said sustained collaboration among telecom regulators remains central to expanding the digital economy, improving service delivery, and enhancing the quality of life of citizens across the sub-region.
Maida noted that the NCC’s long-standing engagement through platforms such as the West Africa Telecommunications Regulators Assembly (WATRA) reflects its belief that regional prosperity is best achieved through interconnected and resilient communications networks. He recalled Nigeria’s leadership in advocating the recognition of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) as critical national infrastructure within ECOWAS, stressing that such designation is vital for sustainable sector growth.
He assured the Liberian delegation of the NCC’s readiness to support shared regional initiatives and translate regulatory dialogue into concrete outcomes that benefit consumers and industry stakeholders across borders.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the LTA Board of Commissioners, Hon. Clarence Massaquoi, commended the NCC for its openness and leadership, describing Nigeria as a central force in the region’s communications ecosystem. He said Liberia is prioritising regional partnerships to address issues such as cross-border roaming and regulatory alignment, while seeking NCC’s support in capacity building and the adoption of best practices as it reviews its licensing framework in line with emerging technologies.
