By Gloria Sarauniya Usman

ABUJA, AUGUST, 2024 - The Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) has commended the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) for investigating the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) over alleged misappropriation of N90 billion in Hajj subsidies.

CISLAC's Executive Director, Mr. Auwal Rafsanjani, described the widespread looting during the recent Hajj exercise as alarming, highlighting the need for accountability. He praised the ICPC's efforts to expose the fraud and urged them to root out corruption from public institutions.

Rafsanjani emphasized the urgent need for reforms, citing Nigeria's poor ranking on the 2023 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) and the devastating impact of corruption on the country's socio-economic challenges. He called for a concerted effort to restore trust, integrity, and dignity to public institutions.

With the ICPC's investigation underway, CISLAC and other civil society organizations are hopeful that this case will mark a turning point in the fight against corruption in Nigeria, ensuring accountability and justice for millions of citizens affected by corrupt practices.
