INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, Addresses Political Parties at Quarterly Consultative Meeting

ABUJA, NIGERIA May 13, 2024 - The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, addressed political party leaders at the second regular quarterly consultative meeting for 2024, held at the INEC Conference Room in Abuja on Monday, May 13, 2024.
Prof. Yakubu welcomed the party leaders and commended their commitment to the electoral process. He highlighted the Commission's preparations for the upcoming off-cycle Governorship elections in Edo and Ondo States, scheduled for September 21, 2024, and November 16, 2024, respectively.
The Chairman emphasized the need for political parties to maintain law and order during the electioneering process and adhere to the timeline for uploading polling and collation agents' information. He also reminded parties to submit their candidates' lists by the deadline, as no extensions would be granted.
Additionally, Prof. Yakubu announced the resumption of Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in Edo and Ondo States from May 27 to June 5, 2024, to enable eligible citizens to register or transfer their registration.
He urged political parties and stakeholders to mobilize prospective registrants and encouraged those who have not collected their Permanent Voters' Cards (PVCs) to do so during the CVR exercise.
The Chairman also informed party leaders about vacancies in National and State Assemblies caused by deaths or resignations and announced upcoming bye-elections in four constituencies across the country.
In conclusion, Prof. Yakubu thanked the party leaders for their cooperation and commitment to the electoral process, and wished them success in their endeavors.
