ABUJA, NIGERIA - May 15, 2024 - Mr. Julius Abure, National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), has urged the party and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to put aside their differences and form a united front to serve the interests of Nigerian workers.
Speaking at a news conference in Abuja on Wednesday, Abure emphasized the need for collaboration, stating that it would be in the collective interest of both parties to combine their resources and fight for the common good.
Abure appealed to NLC President, Mr. Joe Ajaero, to put aside any grievances and work together in the interest of the people. He noted that fighting among themselves would only dissipate their collective energies and hinder progress.
The LP national chairman also announced the establishment of a Directorate of Obidient Affairs to address member complaints and ensure proper integration into the party. Additionally, he urged elected LP members in the House of Representatives and Senate to work closely with the party, assuring them that their interests would be protected if they worked in synergy.
Abure announced the formation of new committees, including Peace and Reconciliation, Electoral Reform, and Political Reform, which will be chaired by Prof. Sam Amadi.
Reflecting on the 2023 election outcome, Abure hailed the party's successful performance, noting that LP had secured a governor, 35 House of Representatives members, 7 Senators, and numerous state assembly members. He expressed gratitude to Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, and other party members and leaders who supported the successful convention.
