ABUJA, AUGUST, 2024 - The Labour Party has urged the Supreme Court to cancel the Imo state governorship election, citing clear evidence of over-voting and electoral malpractices.
In a statement by National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Obiora Ifoh, the party argued that the election was marred by irregularities, including over-voting, falsification of result sheets, harassment of Labour Party agents, and vote buying.
Ifoh emphasized that the electoral laws are clear on the issue of over-voting, which should lead to the cancellation of the election. He noted that the Supreme Court has the opportunity to correct the injustice and restore faith in the legal institutions by upholding the law.
The Labour Party demanded that the Supreme Court order the cancellation of the flawed election and mandate a fresh governorship election in Imo state to restore public trust and uphold the integrity of the judicial system.
