ABUJA, NIGERIA December, 2024 - Makems Jewellery, a fast-growing Abuja-based jewellery company, captivated fashion enthusiasts during its 2024 annual jewellery exhibition, showcasing a blend of exquisite handmade and imported jewellery. The event, held on December 7, 2024, at Glowing Ages Academy in Kaura District, Abuja, celebrated creativity, elegance, and Nigeria’s local content policy initiative.

The exhibition featured a stunning array of contemporary designs and vintage treasures, including handmade earrings, necklaces, bangles, bracelets, rings, and male accessories. It underscored Makems’ commitment to promoting locally-produced jewellery that rivals imported alternatives in both quality and design. Hundreds of visitors, including fashion lovers and potential clients, thronged the venue to purchase unique pieces for the festive season and network with like-minded individuals.

In her address, Miss Temitope Adejare, Director of Business Development at Makems, emphasized the company’s passion for crafting distinctive jewellery that reflects the ingenuity of local artisans. She highlighted the economic benefits of prioritizing locally-sourced materials amidst rising import costs due to fluctuating currency exchange rates.

“Given the current challenges with dollar-to-naira exchange rates, importing products has become very expensive,” Adejare stated. “At Makems Jewellery, we focus on sourcing local materials to create unique, high-quality jewellery pieces that our customers adore. Every piece we design is one-of-a-kind, ensuring exclusivity for our clients.”

She added, “While we also sell imported jewellery, the Nigerian-made collection has captured the hearts of our clients due to its durability, uniqueness, and superior quality. Unlike many local producers, Makems maintains high-quality standards that rival—and often surpass—imported options.”

Adejare noted that the affordability of locally-produced jewellery, priced in naira, makes it more accessible to a wide range of customers. She also revealed the company’s long-term goal of exporting its locally-manufactured products, contributing to Nigeria’s economic growth and strengthening the naira through foreign exchange earnings.

The exhibition further highlighted Makems’ impact on job creation within the jewellery-making value chain, showcasing the company’s role in driving local employment and entrepreneurship. Adejare shared that Makems leverages social media platforms for online sales, broadening its reach and accessibility to customers nationwide.

“Our vision is to become a household name in jewellery sourcing and production, aligned with the government’s local content policy. Through innovation and quality, we aim to deliver affordable, stylish, and durable jewellery that resonates with Nigerians across all social divides,” she concluded.

The 2024 Makems Jewellery Exhibition underscored the company’s dedication to fostering creativity, sustainability, and economic empowerment, reaffirming its position as a key player in Nigeria’s fashion and jewellery industry.
