ABUJA, NIGERIA October, 2024- Directors in the Ministry of Police Affairs have formalized their commitment to excellence and accountability by signing a performance bond with the Honourable Minister. This bond aims to ensure the smooth implementation of tasks in alignment with Priority 2 of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
At the official signing ceremony held at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja, the Permanent Secretary, Mr. James Sule, represented the Minister. He emphasized that the performance bond symbolizes a pledge towards result-driven management, enhanced public service delivery, and the improvement of citizens’ quality of life, all of which contribute to sustainable development in Nigeria.
“The Nigerian people rely on us to execute policies, programs, and projects that improve their well-being and contribute significantly to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). We must uphold transparency and accountability as custodians of public trust," the Minister stated.
The performance contract outlines specific performance objectives and targets to be met within set timeframes. It not only focuses on meeting these targets but also encourages continuous learning, regular reviews, and feedback mechanisms to address performance gaps. Directors are expected to lead this process within their respective departments, all aimed at strengthening national security for peace and prosperity.
The signing of the performance bond follows the disaggregation of Priority Areas into Ministerial Deliverables, which were endorsed by all Ministers and Permanent Secretaries as a performance bond with the President in October 2023. The Minister also reiterated the significance of the Ministerial Mandate, which showcases the efforts of various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in delivering on the eight priority areas of the administration.
In her welcome remarks, Mrs. Azeez Margaret, Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics, noted that the contract goes beyond being a mere document. “It is a promise to uphold high standards, exceed expectations, and remain accountable for delivering tangible results," she said.
Professor Adeyemi Ajayi, the facilitator of the performance bond signing, praised the Ministry of Police Affairs for being proactive, stating that it is the only ministry among the 19 he has worked with that has signed, trained, and developed job descriptions for its staff. He emphasized that the next step is for the directors to cascade the performance expectations down to all staff within the ministry, ensuring accountability at every level.
