The Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu, emphasized that achieving the agency’s objectives requires advanced professional proficiency in procurement management. According to Halilu, strengthening procurement expertise is crucial to meeting NASENI's mission and supporting the "Renewed Hope Agenda" of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
Speaking at the opening of a three-day in-house training for procurement officers and other staff across NASENI, held in Abuja, Halilu underscored the importance of positioning the agency as a leader in procurement excellence. He stressed that the training would ensure officers have the capacity to manage procurement processes effectively, in full compliance with the Public Procurement Act of 2007.
Halilu highlighted that the training was particularly important for newly appointed or reassigned officers, emphasizing the need for continuous development to align with NASENI’s strategic vision. He urged participants to apply their newly acquired knowledge to their day-to-day responsibilities, which would lead to enhanced service delivery.
In his keynote address, Barr. Olusegun Omotola, Acting Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), represented by Dr. Adebowale Adedokun, Director of Training, stated that NASENI plays a pivotal role in national infrastructure development. He stressed the need for building skills and competencies that ensure transparent and efficient procurement practices, ultimately leading to better value for public funds.
Omotola also reminded participants of the importance of adhering to government regulations, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation’s (SGF) Circulars on procurement plans and records. He stressed that all procurement activities must follow the approved procurement plans through the NOCOPO system and be handled by certified BPP-trained officers.
The training is expected to address challenges hindering the effective execution of procurement-related tasks and ensure better budget implementation across NASENI.
