ABUJA, NIGERIA May 14, 2024 -  The Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (EVC/CEO) of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu, has stressed the importance of effective resource management in administering public funds for the benefit of Nigeria.


He made this statement while declaring open a one-day sensitization workshop on Government Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS) policy and guidelines for NASENI financial managers in collaboration with the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at the Agency's headquarters in Abuja.


The workshop aimed to enhance financial management practices for NASENI principal officers, directors, managing directors, and accounting officers system-wide. Mr. Halilu urged participants to take the workshop seriously, emphasizing accurate financial record-keeping and innovative processes integral to the GIFMIS policy. He also highlighted the significance of staff training and capacity development to make NASENI a preferred public sector employer in Nigeria.


The EVC/CEO warned staff about the importance of confidentiality in financial management and adherence to public service regulations regarding official information integrity. He also emphasized NASENI's 3Cs initiative - Collaboration, Creation, and Commercialization - as the Agency's core operating principles, expressing confidence in achieving its goals in alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda.


The Deputy Programme Manager, System Support and Sustainability Directorate, OAGF, Mr. Jeremiah Asanato, explained that GIFMIS aims to integrate budgeting and government expenditure, addressing irregularities, corruption, and fraudulent activities in government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).


In his vote of thanks, Coordinating Director, Finance and Accounts, NASENI, Alh. Ibrahim Baba Dauda, appreciated the Finance and Accounts Directorate staff for attending the workshop and challenged them to work towards making NASENI an independent revenue-generating agency.
