"NCC Orders Immediate Reactivation of Affected Lines Due to NIN-SIM Verification Issues"

ABUJA NIGERIA,July 29, 2024-
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has directed all telecom operators to immediately reactivate phone lines that were disconnected over the weekend due to issues with the National Identification Number (NIN)-Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) verification process.
Many telecom subscribers experienced difficulties accessing their phone lines due to the inability to verify their NINs with their SIMs, resulting in their numbers being blocked by their service providers in compliance with the NIN-SIM linkage policy. The policy, which began in December 2020, aims to enhance national security and ensure the accuracy of the national SIM ownership database.
Despite extensions to the deadline, many phone lines remain unlinked with verified NINs. Considering the challenges caused by the blockages, the Commission has ordered the reactivation of affected lines for a limited period to allow consumers to properly link their NINs to their SIMs.
Consumers who have not yet verified their SIMs are encouraged to do so as soon as possible to maintain access to their lines. The NCC prioritizes consumer interests and seeks to minimize disruptions while ensuring compliance with the NIN-SIM linkage policy.
