Abuja, Nigeria - The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has inaugurated a Startup Labelling Committee to drive the implementation of the Nigeria Startup Act (NSA). The committee, comprising public and private sector representatives, will oversee the assessment and validation process for the Startup Label, recognizing eligible startups and granting access to benefits outlined in the NSA.
The NSA, enacted in 2022, aims to foster the development and growth of Nigerian startups. The Startup Label is a critical provision, and the committee's work will ensure a thorough evaluation process.
NITDA Director-General Kashifu Inuwa CCIE emphasized the government's commitment to supporting young innovators and creating an environment conducive to their growth. He expressed optimism about the potential for startups to drive economic development and job creation.
The committee will review applications, provide feedback, and recommend issuance of the Startup Label based on defined criteria. Members include representatives from incubators, government agencies, civil society, and a portal coordinator.
This milestone marks a significant step in implementing the Nigeria Startup Act, which has the potential to unlock the immense potential of Nigeria's startup ecosystem and contribute to the nation's economic development.
