ABUJA, NIGERIA June 22, 2024 -

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has pledged to support Afre.lib Academy's initiatives aimed at promoting digital literacy and tech education among Nigerian youths. This partnership aligns with NITDA's commitment to achieving 70% digital literacy by 2025.

During a visit to NITDA's headquarters, Afre.lib Academy's Executive Director, Mrs. Joice Gomina, requested collaboration on upcoming events, including bootcamps, a tech expo, and sponsorship for their tech challenge winners. NITDA's Director General, Kashifu Inuwa, expressed support and emphasized the need for innovative approaches to achieve digital literacy goals.

Inuwa highlighted NITDA's three-pronged strategy: integrating digital skills into formal education, creating an Edtech platform for informal learning, and training the formal workforce. He also mentioned plans to partner with the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) to expand reach and translate content into Nigerian languages.

Both organizations share a vision for IT development and digital literacy. NITDA will review Afre.lib Academy's curriculum to ensure alignment with the National Digital Literacy Framework (NDLF). The Agency also plans to establish innovation hubs in each state and collaborate on tech clubs in schools.

Afre.lib Academy aims to bridge the gap between digitally native children and their teachers, providing a platform for mentorship, safe exploration of technology, and nation-building skills. The Academy's activities include bootcamps, summer tech challenges, and teacher training.

The partnership demonstrates NITDA's commitment to innovative approaches and stakeholder engagement in achieving digital literacy goals.
