ABUJA, NIGERIA July 23, 2024 - Supporters of Peter Obi, the Labour Party's Presidential Candidate in the 2023 general elections, have dismissed the call for his arrest by Presidential Aide, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, as unfounded and divisive.
Dr. Paul Moses, National Coordinator of New Nigeria Now, described the allegation as "reckless, divisive, and unsubstantiated" in a statement on Monday in Abuja. He urged President Tinubu to caution his media aide against using inflammatory language and threats against respected leaders and Nigerians.
Moses condemned Onanuga's ethnic and bigoted rhetoric, stating that it was designed to divide and distract Nigerians. He praised Obi's commitment to peaceful coexistence and issue-based politics, even in the face of provocation.
"Peter Obi is a beacon of hope for Nigeria, and his patriotic conduct has been exemplary," Moses said. "All Nigerians must reject the sinister antics of Bayo Onanuga, who seeks to exploit Nigerians for his self-interest."
The supporters reiterated that Obi is a humble, tolerant, and peaceful politician who has consistently chosen to maintain decorum and respect, despite daily insults and provocations. They urged Nigerians to stand together against divisive tactics and support leaders who prioritize the greater good.
