"Partnership Crucial in Empowering Persons with Disabilities, Says Presidential Aide"

ABUJA, NIGERIA July 20, 2024 - Presidential aide Mr. Mohammed Isa has emphasized the importance of partnership in addressing the challenges faced by Persons With Disabilities (PWDs). Speaking at the launch of a capacity-building program in Abuja, Isa stressed that collaboration is key to achieving equal opportunities for all, as mandated by President Bola Tinubu's renewed hope agenda.
The program, organized by Nigeria Women Economic Development (NigWED) in partnership with UNFPA, Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, Advocacy for Women With Disabilities Initiative (AWWDI), and Africa Tomorrow Plus Foundation, aims to promote menstrual health and hygiene practices among women with disabilities.The initiative includes training and free distribution of reusable sanitary pads and orange fleshed sweet potato farming.
Isa commended NigWED for the initiative and encouraged beneficiaries to embrace the program. Mr. George Salau, representing the Ministry of Women Affairs, emphasized the importance of empowerment through training. Mr. Lugard Okonobo, Director-General of NigWED, expressed optimism about the project's potential impact.
The representative of UNFPA's Country Director, Mrs. Wunmi Laolu-Akande, reiterated the organization's commitment to sexual reproductive health, and WASH advocate Aisha Ndakun highlighted the significance of addressing access to sanitary pads.
The partnership aims to empower women and girls with disabilities, improve nutritional standards, and enhance food security. By providing training and economic opportunities, the initiative seeks to address the multiple challenges faced by PWDs.
