"Peter Obi Mourns Jos School Building Collapse, Calls for Thorough Investigation"

ABUJA, NIGERIA July 20, 2024 - Peter Obi, the Labour Party's Presidential Candidate in the 2023 general election, has expressed his condolences to the families affected by the tragic collapse of a school building in Jos, Plateau.
In a statement released on Saturday, Obi described the incident as "disheartening" and "heartbreaking." He wrote, "I am deeply saddened by the reports of the school building collapse in Busa Buji village, Jos, which has resulted in the loss of at least 16 young lives and left many others, including teachers, trapped under the rubble."
Obi extended his sympathies to the government and people of Plateau, the school's management, staff, and students, as well as the families of the victims. He praised the swift response of rescue teams, including the FRSC, NEMA, Red Cross, Army, Police, and individual volunteers.
The former presidential candidate called for a thorough investigation into the incident to determine its cause and prevent similar tragedies nationwide. He offered his prayers for the safe rescue of those still trapped and for the eternal rest of the deceased, while also wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
Obi's statement read, "My sincere prayers are with the remaining trapped children and teachers for their safe rescue. May God grant eternal rest to the dead, give their families the fortitude to bear the painful losses, and grant quick recovery to the injured."
