ABUJA, NIGERIA August, 2024 - The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Police Affairs (MPA), Mr. James Sule, has emphasized that private-public partnership and engagement are crucial in addressing the funding challenges faced by the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF).
During a recent briefing by the NPTF Management, led by Executive Secretary Mr. Muhammad Sheidu, at the MPA Headquarters in Abuja, Sule acknowledged the Agency's underfunding and urged judicious use of resources. He stressed the need to prioritize police training, equipment, and motivation to deliver world-class policing and proactive responses to security challenges.
Sule emphasized the importance of leadership, synergy, and effective service delivery, stating, "We must be proud of ourselves in discharging our duties and doing the right things. Nobody will come from outside to turn the situation around."
He encouraged NPTF Management to cooperate with the new Executive Secretary, leveraging private and public sector experiences for the benefit of the system.
Earlier, Executive Secretary Sheidu informed the Permanent Secretary that the Agency had implemented its 2020 and 2021 Capital Projects and police training programs for 2022 and 2023. He highlighted challenges such as low budgetary provisions, untimely capital appropriation releases, and irregular levy releases.
Sheidu noted that the Agency is engaging stakeholders to explore collaboration opportunities, expected to attract additional funds for equipment, machinery, construction, training, and welfare of the Nigeria Police Force and its auxiliary staff.
